BARNBURNER PATTERDALES

An all working Patterdale Terrier site!

11/03/07

Opening day of coon season 2007 today.

We ended up the day with 7 coon.  Took all rookies in age from 6 months to 2 years old.  Got one coon in our first barn loft of the day.  Second barn had two more sitting on top of hay in the barn loft and shot down holes when we walked in got those with Katie Merlin and Jazzy.  Last Barn of the day we got 4 and lost one.  Sarge got a ride 7 feet up the inside of a barn wall cavity.  He had ahold of a coon on it's rear end and the coon took off up the inside of the wall with Sarge attatched to it's rear end.  Aaron's little Chocolate bithch 6 months old had the first locate in the last barn with 3 older dogs working the same space.  We were real happy with her today. She is hard as nails as well.  All in all it was an awesome opening day considering the warm weather.  Pics Below.

Quick hunt got two...  12/8/07

We took some young dogs out today and they did real well. We only had time for half a day so when we got in the last barn we knew we hit pay dirt, but couldn't get all the coon that were in the barn and by the look of it there were a lot and we were right.
Take a look at all of the coon dung in the pic below....We knew this barn was holding  a lot of coon!

Merlin and Jazzy did real well both soloing on a coon a piece.
We had coon poping out of holes everywhere it was like Wack A Mole at Chukie Cheese. We only ended up with two coon before we had to call it a day. You can bet we will be back to this barn for round two.....Pics of Jazzy and Merlin below...

We had a blast and look forward to next week for round two of coon brawl 2007!

Blistering cold hunt!

1/19/08

We hunted with a friend Vargy in Iowa City he was our guide for the day and did a great job getting us in the barns holding coon.  He normally hunts coyotes with Walkers and Stag Hounds, but just got a Patterdale pup and wanted to try her out on the coon in the barns and found himself hooked!  He might be looking at a divorce with another hunting hobby.  No just kidding...  We did well for it being -2 below outside.  We ended up withfour for the day.  Good days work.  We took out Sarge, Merlin,  Aaron Strawn's Chocolate bitch, and Jazzy, And Vargy's Babe, and Casey.  Good dog work by all! SHORT BRUSH PILE HUNT...

We took out Junior, Billie, and Spider out today on a short hunt behind my house and Junior went right into a big brush pile and we heard a coon and Junior going at it and pretty soon he was dragging it out and the other two bitches were in on it too and it was over just about as fast as it started.  The dogs got a litte over heated in the 88 degree temps so we called it a day.  All in all it was a good hunt for starting young dogs.
